Worst Night Ever

To give a bit of an idea about how this night went, here is the sign on the door the next morning:

Warning

In case you can't read it, it says:
"The Baby is Sleeping. If you wake him up, you are taking him home. Adam - if you wake him up I'm going home with Laurie and Arthur"
This is what I returned to after working on the bunkie for some of the morning. It pretty much sums up the night. We aren't sure what the underlying problem was. We thought it might have been 'issues' related to the introduction of solid food, or perhaps it may have been related to teething, he was happy as a clam during the day, so who knows. Regardless, his pain was our pain. He went down with out much of an issue at a relatively normal time, but basically every 30 minutes thereafter he was up. At one point, around 1:30 am we got to the point where the current on-duty parent would put him back to sleep (which was not easy) and then return to our room to hear him muttering in the montior. We gave up about 2:30 and brought the screaming, inconsolable, flailing mass of arms and legs back to our room... for what, we had no idea: we were on to plan F at this point. G involved the car seat an a ride into town, and there wasn't an H. Sleep eventually did come to the poor kid and we put him down in a nest of blankets on the floor in the closet (maybe I shouldn't admit that on the interwebs). He got a solid 3 hours after that before needing to be resettled again. We gave the whole thing up about 7 and brought him into bed with us, where he slept a bit longer. Needless to say mom and dad were a bit wiggy for the rest of the day.

5:59

Matthew was introduced to solid foods today. We tried him on some rice paste of some sort whilst at the cottage this weekend. He is almost 6 months and that is apparently the magic time. There are two schools of though vis-a-vis solid food and sleep: 1) says there is no correlation; 2) solid food = full belly = sleeping through the night. We were kinda hoping for the latter. Kristine usually feeds Matthew around 3-4am. According to the doctor he should be sleeping through night now, and with solid food, there is no reason not to. So we were going to try that. The deal, given that it is the weekend, was that should Matthew awaken before 6am, I was to put him back to sleep. Well, wouldn't you know it. 5:59am and the little turkey wakes up after sleeping the whole night through. Yippie. Little did we know that this awesome night would be followed by two of the worst he has had to date... but more on that later.
